Dear Jennifer,
I’m Leslie, the other theinfonaut you may have noticed cluttering your
search results. A month or so ago I posted a comment to your
theinfonaut.com mybloglog stating that I was glad that the url had
finally come out of squatter territory. It seemed that you deleted
your bloglog comments shortly there after. I took this to mean that
you didn’t want to have a conversation about this and decided to let
things be.
As you may have noticed though, there is some confusion about who is
who online. The confusion is only amplified by the fact that we are
both in similar industries. Given that we both have online and public
presences it’s in our mutual interest to clear this up. As an example
I’ve recently started receiving emails meant for you. Whether this is
a technical or human blunder I’m not sure, but it seems to be another
instance of the confusion that this has led us to.
I’ve been using theinfonaut since at least 2002. I have a lot of
relationships and goodwill tied up with this moniker. I understand
that you’ve been investing in the name as well, but it’s obvious that
we can’t continue doing this without causing confusion. Perhaps there
is a way for you to use another name that isn’t easily confused with
theinfonaut. As you can understand I’m committed to continuing use of
this moniker given my long history with this name.
I’m open to suggestions, and I’d really like to come to some
conclusion that works for both of us. If we don’t resolve this issue
it’s reasonable to expect that the confusion will only get worse as we
both try to advance our careers.
Thanks for your understanding, I look forward to talking with you more
about this.
-Leslie
